KUOW's Angela King wins Gracie Award for local reporting

Seattle, WA — KUOW's Morning Edition host Angela King has won a Gracie Award for her story on a local salon owner who closed down her business in the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic. In the interview, stylist Titania Dennis offers an intimate and personal reflection on business, family, and keeping a community safe.

"I've been in local news for more than 25 years, but this is my first radio award, so it means A LOT to me — not to mention being recognized by such a distinguished group and to share similar honors with such an impressive list of recipients," said King. "But what was more humbling was the trust Titania Dennis instilled in me to tell her story, and her willingness to speak out against people in her profession who were defying the pandemic restrictions at the time."

The Gracies recognize individual achievement and exemplary programming created by, for and about women in all facets of media and entertainment. The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) announced winners on June 10. See the full list of this year's Gracie winner here.
