Finding love is hard. In Seattle it's even harder

This week on SoundQs, a single professional in her 30s asks why it's so hard to date in Seattle.

Keita Williams is an extrovert's extrovert. She travels the country for her job running her own company, Success Bully. She makes easy conversation with people wherever she goes.

But in Seattle, her extrovert self is often met with a cool reaction. Like on a recent Thursday night when she and a friend went out to a bar, dressed to the nines and feeling good.

"We see these really attractive men walking in and of course, I’m throwing winks around, and they’re on their phones emailing," Williams said.

"I leaned over and asked the guy next to me, 'Is there a fire at work? What’s going on? Can I help you troubleshoot?' Even with that, he had to go, oh! and then he put his phone down.”

What Williams thought would be a conversation starter, didn’t start a conversation. Even her technique of winking at everyone in the room, which yields good results in other cities, tends to fall flat in Seattle.

So why is it so hard to make a connection here? And what might the Seattle Freeze have to do with it?

This week on SoundsQs we talk with people dating in Seattle to learn more about what it’s like to try and find love and connection. And we’ll find out how one frustrated dater has turned her experiences into internet gold.
