Submit Your Podcast Idea to KUOW
Do you have an idea for a podcast that will inspire, enrich and surprise listeners in the Puget Sound region? Do you have an audio project in mind that would be meaningful and relevant to audiences that public media has not traditionally served? We want to hear from you.
We are looking to expand our podcast offerings in 2021 and are currently accepting proposals for new projects and ideas.
Maybe you’re an artist or writer with a great story, but limited experience in audio storytelling. Great! We want to hear from you. Maybe you’ve got a unique perspective on a critical issue in Seattle, but you don’t have the equipment or studio to turn your idea into a podcast project. Excellent. Tell us about it. Maybe you're already seasoned in podcasts or audio storytelling, but are looking for a team to collaborate with on your next big idea. Perfect. Let's talk.
If you are interested in submitting your podcast idea, please fill out the application form here by August 2, 2021.
Why We're Doing This
KUOW’s mission is to create and serve a more informed public. In addition to our award-winning journalism, we produce innovative podcasts exploring the most pressing issues of our time – from climate change to workplace equity to artificial intelligence.
We believe new podcasts can help KUOW elevate new voices and reach new audiences, while embodying our values: earning trust, demonstrating courage, celebrating diversity and community service.
What KUOW is looking for
First and foremost, we are looking for distinctive, inclusive, original stories. In particular, we are on the lookout for projects that are of Washington and the Pacific Northwest. We are particularly interested in stories about things that make Seattle and Puget Sound unique, including (but not limited to):
- Environment & natural world
- Local / Global intersections
- Policing
- Technology, sciences and innovation
If you are interested in working with KUOW, please listen to our existing roster of shows to get a sense of our sound and sensibilities.
How the pitch process works
The deadline for submitting new ideas is August 2, 2021. You can find the submission form here.
A panel of editors, producers and other representatives from KUOW will assess proposals based on the criteria set forth in the application questions.
The panel will select up to five ideas to bring through our piloting program.
Independent producers and collaborators whose ideas are selected for piloting will be paid for ten days of full-time production work.
Selected collaborators will be paired with KUOW producers and editors.
