What’s with Seattle bumper stickers these days?
On this episode of SoundQs a listener asks us to explore the patterns and messages of bumper stickers in the Pacific Northwest.
There’s a personal reason she wants to better understand this form of automotive art.
Sometimes, you go back home and don’t even recognize the place. That’s what happened with listener Susi Johnston. She’s an art historian who was born and raised in Seattle. She’s spent much of her life traveling the globe, including spending the last 20 years in Indonesia.
Now Johnston has returned to Seattle, but doesn’t recognize her hometown.
Like any good art historian, she’s studying the art around her for clues into better understanding the culture. Specifically, the art of bumper stickers.
She thinks bumper sticker culture might hold the key to help her better understand the Seattle of 2019.
